MARK CAMERON WHITE
Partner, White & Lee LLP

Mark White represents a wide variety of private and public companies, as well as venture capital funds, on all matters relating to the formation, financing, growth and liquidity of technology-based enterprises. He regularly advises companies on strategic positioning, business model and revenue generation issues, the preparation of investment materials and presentations, and the structure of complex corporate reorganizations, consolidations and commercial partnerships. Mark has worked with recognized companies such as HotMail, Classmates Online, and 3ware, and with preeminent venture funds including New Enterprise Associates, Selby Ventures, and ChinaVest.

Mark is a frequent lecturer on legal, business, and technology issues surrounding emerging growth companies and has been featured in seminars for the Northern California Association of Harvard Business School, the International Angels Institute, the Asian Business Association, and the EDA Consortium. He has also spoken on these topics in Singapore, the Peoples Republic of China and Malaysia. In addition to the Silicon Forest Forum, Mark organizes the Executive Leadership Series in Silicon Valley in conjunction with the Software Development Forum (SDForum) and PricewaterhouseCoopers. He has also led the organization and operation of the "Soup to Nuts" seminar series, whose sponsors have included NASDAQ, Microsoft and Oracle.

Prior to founding White & Lee, Mark worked as an attorney at Fenwick & West and Cooley Godward. Prior to his legal career, he worked as the Managing Director of the International Trade division of the Harper Group, a Fortune 500 company and as the founder of Campamericana, an international travel operator based in Brussels, Belgium.

Mark received his law degree at the University of California at Berkeley - Boalt Hall School of Law in 1987, his M.B.A. at Harvard University, Graduate School of Business in 1979 and his Bachelor of Arts at Rutgers College, Rutgers University, in 1977, Phi Beta Kappa. Mark is an avid golfer, runner and oarsman.


AMITY G. WALL
Manager of Research Operations, VentureOne

Amity Wall is Manager, Research Operations with Alternative Investor’s VentureOne. She leads VentureOne’s primary venture capital research operation and is responsible for the core of research that tracks the business progress and financing plans of venture-backed companies in the U.S. In addition, she works closely with VentureOne’s European research organization to ensure the integrity of the database and methodology. Amity also assists with media relations. Prior to VentureOne, Amity was an Associate at Kington Management Corporation, an investment firm located in Alexandria, VA. She received a B.A. from Middlebury College.


DAVID CHEN
Partner, OVP

David brings more than 20 years of operating experience in the software, Internet commerce, and wireless markets. He began his career as one of the early team members at Solectron, a $16 billion market leader in electronics manufacturing. Dave was also founder and managing partner of The Ascent Group: a strategy consultant serving firms like Intel, Microsoft, Sun, Bell Atlantic, Fujitsu and Marimba. He is a co-founder at GeoTrust, and during his tenure as an OVP partner, he served on the board of @mobile prior to its acquisition by software.com.

STEVE LARSON
CEO, EID Access

Mr. Larson is the EID Access Founder and Chairman of the Board. In 1987, Mr. Larson founded Unicru, Inc., where he served as Chairman of the Board, CEO and President. Unicru is a leader in Human Capital Management automation technology. Mr. Larson has developed relationships with several Fortune 500 executives, has participated on several technology boards and has assisted in funding and recruiting executives and board members for other companies.

ERIK BENSON
Principal, Voyager Capital

As one of Voyager's five senior investment professionals, Erik Benson brings a unique blend of over 10 years of technology, venture capital, and private equity experience to the team. His primary areas of interest are enterprise software, technology services, and datacenter infrastructure.

Prior to joining Voyager in 1998, Erik enjoyed the challenges of entrepreneurship as the president of Mimix, Inc., a 3-D graphics software start-up company in the animation industry. Previously, Erik served as a technology consultant to the senior management of the life science instrument company Perkin-Elmer Corporation (now Applera Corporation) and to the CEO of the early Java application server company NetDynamics (acquired by Sun Microsystems). In the early 1990s, Erik co-founded the private equity group at Chemical Banking Corporation (now J.P. Morgan Chase).

Erik sourced and drove Voyager's investment in Avenue A (now aQuantive: AQNT), Fidesic, and most recently, RackSaver. Erik previously worked on a number of Voyager's investments, including Amplitude Software (acquired by ClearPath), ClearCommerce, and Tegic Communications (acquired by AOL). He is currently involved with the boards of CapitalStream, Fidesic, GoAhead, and RackSaver.

Outside of work, Erik enjoys playing the cello and auto racing. He is also the founder and president of the Seattle Association of Young Venture Capitalists (SAYVC) and the past president/director of the Harvard Business School Club of Puget Sound. Erik holds an MBA with honors from Harvard Business School.

HUGH MACKWORTH
Managing Partner, SmartForest Ventures

Hugh Mackworth, Managing Partner of SmartForest Ventures, has 20 years of successful high-tech executive and management experience. He is a prominent member of Oregon's entrepreneurial community as a former board member of the Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum and the founder of the Portland Angel Network, a network of private investors. Hugh is currently on the board of TechTracker, Upright Systems, MyHealthBank and Cenquest. In addition, Hugh is chair of the Board of Natural Messaging, Inc., Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry and chair of the Entrepreneur Foundation of Oregon.

Hugh formerly served as CEO of Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ:DMRC), where he led a turnaround at the digital-watermarking venture, since named Oregon's fastest growing company. Before relocating from the Silicon Valley, Hugh worked with GammaLink, a computer-based fax startup, was a marketing executive at 3Com Corporation, and worked in engineering, marketing and finance for Apple Computer before it went public. His academic background includes a BA in computer studies and an MBA, both from Stanford University.

FOREST BASKETT, PH.D.
Venture Partner, NEA

Forest Baskett joined NEA in 1999 as a venture partner working with information technology companies. Present board memberships include Aeluros, Atheros Communications, Catalytic, E20 Communications, Fulcrum Microsystems and T-RAM. He also serves as an advisor to Chelsio Communications, DataDomain, FineGround, Foveon, Luxtera, PolyServe, ReShape and StorAd. Previous board memberships include Newisys. He was previously Senior Vice President of R&D and Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Graphics Inc. He founded and directed the Western Research Laboratory of Digital Equipment Corporation from 1982 to 1986 before joining SGI. Prior to that he was a professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University from 1971 to 1982. He also spent two years at Los Alamos National Laboratory building an operating system for the original Cray-1 computer and a year and a half at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center as a Principal Scientist doing VLSI research. At Stanford, he worked with Andy Bechtolsheim on the SUN workstation project, with Jim Clark on the Geometry Engine project, and with John Hennessy on the MIPS microprocessor project. Dr. Baskett received a BA in Mathematics from Rice University, a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.

KEITH LARSON
Venture Partner, Intel Capital

Keith Larson manages Intel's minority equity investments in and identifies strategic acquisition opportunities of networking and communications building block-related companies. In 1996, Intel Corporation recruited Keith to its venture investing and acquisition group, now known as Intel Capital. In addition to several acquisitions, he and his team have invested in many successful companies including Berkeley networks (acquired by Fore Systems), Globespan (GSPN), Research in Motion (RIMM), Rocketchips (acquired by Xilinx), and XLNT Designs (acquired by Intel). Prior to joining Intel, Keith operated a strategy and financial advisory firm and was founding member of a consumer software company (PrintPaks, later sold to Mattel). In 1986, Keith co-founded a $51 million venture capital fund (InterVen II, L.P.) where he was a general partner for over 9 years. Keith's investments while at InterVen II included Protocol Systems, Inc. (PCOL), Northwest Pipe and Casing (NWPX), and Sports Incorporated (acquired by Adidas America). As a part of Intel Capital's role in helping grow Intel's business, Keith is actively engaged in the development of Intel's networking and communications strategies. He and Intel Capital were the focus of a Harvard Business School Case Study published in 2000 examining how Intel obtains strategic value from its investments. He is a CPA and has been an Adjunct Professor at the Oregon Graduate Institute and Portland State University where he has taught classes in financing emerging growth companies and technology commercialization. He regularly speaks at conferences and seminars such as Next Generations Networks and Networld + Interop.


     

ROB GOWANS
CEO, UXComm

Rob Gowans has over 20 years of experience in the public network market segment. Prior to joining UXComm, Rob was the General Manager of Service Provider Systems for Intel Corporation. In this capacity, he was responsible for overseeing the development of Telco-grade service provider products and reference systems for next generation networks. He joined Intel from Interactive Media Group (Canada) Ltd., where he was Chief Technology Officer in charge of all technology development and network operations.

Prior to joining IMG, Rob served as Vice President of Network Services/Operations and was a founding partner of NetXchange Corporation. He was a founding partner of Tell Canada Telecommunications Inc., one of the largest enhanced services switchless resellers in Canada. He also served at CNCP Telecommunications/Unitel Communications Inc./AT&T Canada as a Management Consultant and as Director of Network Marketing. Additionally, Rob was President and a founding partner of Teletech Systems Group and founder of Gowans Research, a telecommunications consulting service.

CLIVE COOK
CEO, Elematics

Mr. Cook began his career as an engineer at Nortel where he was involved in the development of the industry's first SONET OC-12 transport node. He was later a product manager for the leading telecommunications equipment-testing manufacturer TTC (now Acterna), where he led TTC's first efforts in SNMP network management. Working for Mercer Management Consulting, Mr. Cook contributed to a broad array of engagements in a number of industries including telecommunications, energy, biotechnology, and information technology. A serial entrepreneur, Mr. Cook served as COO of Patagon, the Latin America online brokerage sold in 2000 to BSCH.

STEVE MORRIS
CEO, Teseda

Steve Morris is a 20-year veteran of the test business with product development and rollout experience at Hewlett Packard, Integrated Measurement Systems, Cadence, Mentor Graphics and Credence Systems Corporation. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics from Reed College and a Master of Science from Carnegie-Mellon University.

JOHN FERNANDES
Director of Business Development and Strategy
Emerging Business Team, Microsoft Corporation

John Fernandes is responsible for Microsoft’s strategy, programs, marketing and business development activities with strategic startups and the venture capital community. John and his team engage with select early stage portfolio companies, identifying areas of mutual benefit with those who are embracing .NET, working together to create the next generation of software innovations. His team also engages with forward-looking technologies as diverse as security, image color systems, and wearable computers. The Emerging Business Team focuses on emerging companies who align with Microsoft’s future technology and business direction as well as commit to developing & deploying .NET based technology solutions for Microsoft’s diverse range of customers.

Prior to coming to the Silicon Valley, Fernandes worked for Microsoft Middle East, managing Microsoft’s business development efforts in the early days of mass Internet adoption. His team was responsible for MSN, Developers, Network Service Providers, and E-commerce solutions over a 20 country region. Before joining Microsoft, Fernandes worked in various international markets including the UK, India, and the Middle East as a change management and strategy consultant for Bratton Consulting and the Amritha International.

John is a Canadian, and has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University Of Western Ontario, Canada. John actively participates in a number of non profit organizations including Digital Partners and the SOS Children’s Villages.

SCOTT GIBSON
Chairman, Gibson Enterprises

Mr. Gibson, a pioneer in Oregon's high-tech industry, started his high-tech career at Intel, where he rose to general manager of its Memory Components Division. In 1983 he co-founded Sequent Computer Systems, where he served as president from 1988 to 1992, building a start-up venture into a $250 million business. Mr. Gibson currently serves as an investor in, strategic consultant to, and Director of many high-technology companies and non-profits.

He is Chairman of the Board of Radisys Corporation and is a Board member of TriQuint Semiconductor, Pixelworks, NW Natural, Livebridge, Thetus, Oregon Health and Science University, OHSU Foundation, Oregon Community Foundation, New Economy Coalition, Oregon Council for Knowledge and the Economy and Governor Kulongoski's transition team.

Scott holds a BSEE and a MBA from the University of Illinois. The American Electronics Association honored him as the Oregon High Tech Executive of the Year in 1990. He also received the Howard Vollum Leadership award in 2000, and the Lifetime Achievement award from the Oregon Entrepreneurs Forum in 2001.

DR. WILLIAM NEW

Dr. William New has more than 40 years of experience, encompassing careers as an engineer, physician, entrepreneur and educator. In 1981, New founded and served as chairman of Nellcor Incorporated, a medical electronics manufacturer, which was sold for $2 billion in 1995. He currently serves as the Associate Dean for Bioengineering, Oregon Graduate Institute, at Oregon Health & Sciences University. He also serves as Founder and Chairman of publicly traded Natus Medical Inc. (www.natus.com), and Chairman and CEO of The Novent Group. Prior to pursuing his entrepreneurial endeavors, he spent 25 years as a Clinical Associate Professor for the Department of Anesthesia at Stanford University School of Medicine. He also spent 12 years as an electronic and development engineer.

New is a prolific inventor, having authored 15 patents, including the Pulse Oximeter, a device now used in 90% of operating rooms to monitor oxygen and perfusion levels in anesthetized patients.

NANCY FLOYD
Co-Founder and Managing Director

Nancy Floyd, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Nth Power, has led and managed investments in utility automation, distributed generation, data networking, information technology and advanced lighting. Prior to founding Nth Power, Ms. Floyd built, managed and negotiated the sale of three high-growth energy and telecommunications companies.

In the energy arena, she founded NFC Energy Corporation, an independent power company utilizing advanced technology developed by NASA and Sandia Labs. She developed over $30 million in projects and sold the company, generating a 25-fold return on original capital investments. In 1984, she helped found PacTel Spectrum Services, a subsidiary of Pacific Telesis, that managed private voice and data networks. Ms. Floyd was responsible for the nationwide launch of Spectrum Services, which was ultimately sold to IBM in 1987.

Ms. Floyd holds a master’s degree in political science from Rutgers University where she was an Eagleton Fellow. She received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Franklin and Marshall College where she currently serves as a trustee.

Ms. Floyd is a member of the boards of Serveron, SmartSynch and Northern Power Systems.


DOUG KLEIN
CTO, Vernier Networks

Doug Klein previously served as chief executive officer for the launch of Vernier Networks. Prior to his assignment as CEO for Vernier, Doug was the vice president of operations for Packet Design. Before Packet Design Klein served as president and chief operating officer for NuvoMedia, Inc., the developer of the Rocket eBook handheld electronic reading device, which was acquired by Gemstar-TV Guide International in January 2000. As a founder of Network Computing Devices, he had direct management responsibilities for all NCD engineering, program management and service and support. Klein earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

TODD BAUMAN
Partner, Stoel Rives LLP

Todd Bauman practices in the Business Department with an emphasis primarily in corporate securities and general corporate law. He has broad experience representing emerging growth and technology companies in private and public financings, SEC reporting and compliance, and acquisitions and divestitures. Todd is the Chair of the Emerging Business Committee of the Oregon Chapter of the American Electronics Association and is the Chair of Stoel Rives’ emerging companies practice group. He was recently named one of the leading lawyers in Oregon in Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers. Todd received his J.D. from the University of Chicago and is admitted to the state bars of Oregon and California.

JIM MILLER
President and CEO, Immnix, Inc.

Jim Miller's background includes more than 25 years of senior management experience in the networking, communications and software industries. During that time he has held senior executive positions including President, CEO and Chairman in both venture-funded and publicly held companies.

Currently, Jim is President & CEO of Immunix. Immunix is a venture-funded company that is in the process of taking to market a new Host Intrusion Prevention technology developed under DARPA contracts.
